Vamos dar continuidade ao nosso estudo sobre conversações.
Tenham em mente a importância desta prática, pois é neste momento que você vai se adaptar com diálogos, vai compreender palavras e expressões e conseguir se comunicar, responder, formando conversas fluídas e trabalhando o spoken english, ou seja, o inglês do dia a dia, natural, falado rápido.
Repita o processo de estudo:
1 - Ouça sem fazer a leitura e tente compreender o máximo possível.
2 - Depois ouça enquanto faz a leitura e associa as palavras que ouve com as que lê, repetindo a pronúncia em voz alta.
3 - Por último, faça a leitura das conversações sem ouvir o áudio, apenas repetindo a pronúncia que acabou de aprender e colocando em prática.
Estes 3 simples passos treinam seu cérebro e tornam seu estudo muito mais produtivo, eficiente e lhe traz os melhores resultados.

91 - Do you know how to get downtown?
Sharon: Oi Geoge, você sabe como chegar no centro da cidade? / Hi George, do you know how to get downtown?
George: Claro. Por que você está indo lá? / Sure. Why are you going there?
Sharon: Eu quero comprar um computador novo. / I want to buy a new computer.
George: Ok, você vai dirigir? / OK, are you driving?
Sharon: Sim. / Yes.
George: Siga em frente nesta rua. Quando você chegar no segundo semáforo, vire à esquerda. Então pegue a rodovia e pegue a saída 52. / Go straight down this road. When you get to the second light, take a left. Then get on the highway and take exit 52.
Sharon: Isso parece bem complicado. Você pode me dizer novamente? Qual rua eu pego primeiro? / That sounds really complicated. Can you tell me again? Which road do I take first?
George: Siga em frente nesta rua e então no segundo semáforo vire à esquerda. Aquela rua é a rua Principal. / You go down this road, then at the second light turn left. That road is Main street.
Sharon: OK, eu acho que entendí agora. / OK, I think I’ve got it now.
George: Por que você vai comprar um computador novo? Você não comprou um há apenas alguns meses atrás? / Why are you buying a new computer anyway? Didn’t you just get one a few months ago?
Sharon: Sim, mas ele não está mais funcionando. / Yes, but it doesn’t work anymore.
George: Onde você o comprou? / Where did you buy it?
Sharon: No Wal-Mart / At Wal-Mart.
George: Eu acho que o teu computador ainda deveria estar na garantia. Você pode levar de volta pra eles e eles o arrumam de graça. / I think your computer should still be under warranty. You can bring it back to them and they’ll fix it for free.
Sharon: Eu acho que você tem razão. Eu não pensei nisso. Eu deveria ir falar com eles sobre isso. Onde é o Wal-Mart mais perto? / I think you’re right. I didn’t think about that. I should go talk to them about it. Where is the closest Wal-Mart?
George: Fica a uns dois blocos daqui. Eue tenho que ir lá pegar umas coisas. Você quer me seguir? / It’s about 2 blocks from here. I have to go there to get some stuff now anyway. Do you want to follow me?
Sharon: Claro. / Sure.
92 - Did you see the news today?
Amanda: John, você viu as notícias hoje? / John, did you see the news today?
John: Não o que aconteceu? / No, what happened?
Amanda: Houve um grande terremoto em São Diego. / There was a big earthquake in San Diego.
John: Minha nossa! / Oh my goodness.
Amanda: O presidente estava nos noticiários falando sobre isso mais cedo. / The president was on the news talking about it earlier.
John: Alguém se machucou? / Was anyone hurt?
Amanda: Eu acho que eles disseram que duas pessoas foram mortas. / I think they said two people were killed.
John: Nossa, que terrível. / Oh, that’s terrible.
Amanda: Sim, eu não posso acreditar que você não ouviu sobre isso. Eles estão falando sobre isso o dia todo na CNN. / Yeah, I can’t believe you hadn’t heard about it. They were talking about it on CNN all day.
John: Eu não assisto muita televisão. / Oh, I don’t watch TV that often.
Amanda: Você não assiste o noticiário? / Don’t you watch the news?
John: Não geralmente eu leio as notícias na Internet, mas eu não tive tempo de livar meu computador hoje. No, I usually read the news online, but I haven’t had time to turn on my computer today.
93 - What's your favorite sport?
Stephanie: Qual é o teu esporte favorito? / What’s your favorite sport?
Frank: Eu gosto de basquete. Eu assisto os jogos pela televisão sempre. / I like basketball. I watch the games on TV all the time.
Stephanie: Qual é o teu time favorito? / Who’s your favorite team?
Frank: Os Celtics de Boston. / The Boston Celtics.
Stephanie: Ele estão realmente bons este ano não estão? / They’re really good this year, aren’t they?
Frank: Sim. Você gosta deles? / Yes. Do you like them?
Stephanie: Sim, todos por aqui gostam. / Yes. Everyone around here does.
Frank: Você acha que eles vão ganhar o campeonato este ano? / Do you think they’ll win the championship this year?
Stephanie: É possível. Eles tem uns jogadores muito bons. / It’s possible. They have some really good players.
Frank: Você assistiu o jogo ontem à noite? / Did you watch the game last night?
Stephanie: Um pouco, não a coisa toda. Eu assistí a segunga metade e eu ví alguns dos destaques na Internet. / A little, not the whole thing. I watched the second half though and I saw some of the highlights online.
Frank: Foi um grande jogo, não foi? / It was a great game, wasn’t it?
Stephanie: Sim. Você sabe quem está jogando amanhã à noite? / Yeah. Do you know who they’re playing tomorrow night?
Frank: Eu acho que eles vão jogar com o LA. / I think their playing LA.
Stephanie: Esse vai ser um jogo duro. LA tem um bom time. / That’s going to be a tough game. LA has a good team.
94 - Making a webpage.
Peter: Oi Liz. Você está trabalhando na tua Webpage agora? / Hi Liz. Are you working on your webpage now?
Liz: Não eu ainda estou esperando você me enviar aquele arquivo de imagem para a homepage. / No, I’m still waiting for you to send me that image file for the homepage?
Peter: Você quer dizer que ainda não a recebeu? Eu te enviei há mais de uma hora atrás. / You mean you didn’t get it? I sent it to you over an hour ago.
Liz: Deixe me checar. Vai demorar um segundo pois eu tenho que iniciar meu computador / Let me check. It’s going to take a second ‘cause I have to start up my computer.
Peter: OK. Você recebeu? / OK. Did you get it?
Liz: Um segundo. Eu tenho que abrir o meu pesquisador (browser) e checar minha conta de hotmail / One second. I just have to open my web browser and check my hotmail account.
Peter: OK / OK.
Liz: OK aqui está. Eu recebí. / OK, here it is. I got it.
Peter: O que você acha da Webpage? Eu tentei encontrá-la pelo Yahoo mas não pude encontrá-la. / How do I find the webpage? I tried to search for it on Yahoo but I couldn’t find it.
Liz: Não use Uahoo, use o Google. / Don’t use Yahoo, use Google.
Peter: Eu também tentei e não funcionou. / I tried that also and it didn’t work.
Liz: Se você for no Google e procupar pelo meu nome você deveria encontrá-lo. / If you go to Google and search for my name, you should be able to find it.
Peter: OK. Deixe-me tentar isso. Eu o vejo agora. / OK. Let me try that. I see it now.
95 - Would you mind driving?
Julie: Ei Michael, eu estou cansada. Você se importaria em dirigir um pouco? / Hey Michael, I’m tired. Would you mind driving for a while?
Michael: Lamento eu adoraria mas eu não sei como dirigir. / Sorry. I would like to, but I don’t know how to drive.
Julie: Mesmo? Você não tem carteira? Eu pensei que todo mundo tivesse carteira. / Really? You don’t have a license? I thought everyone had a license.
Michael: Não eu viví em cidades por toda minha vida e quando eu estou em casa eu geralmente pego metrô ou ônibus. / No, I’ve lived in cities all my life and when I’m at home I usually take the subway or bus.
Julie: Sei. Você acho que vai aprender a dirigir no futuro? / I see. Do you think you’ll learn to drive in the future?
Michael: Sim. Eu planejo comprar um carro no ano que vem. Eu acho que você precisa de um carro nos EUA. / Yes. I plan to buy a car next year. I think you need one in the U.S.
Julie: De fato, aagora pensando sobre isso, muitas pessoas nas cidades também pegam ônibus. / Actually, now that I think about it, a lot of people in cities here take the bus also.
Michael: Bem, eu gostaria de viajar mais. Eu já estou aqui há alguns anos e eu sinto que ainda não ví muito. / Well, I’d like to travel more. I’ve been here for a few months already and I feel like I haven’t seen anything yet.
Julie: Como você vai aprender a dirigir? Você quer que eu te ensine? / How are you going to learn to drive? Do you want me to teach you?
Michael: Não, eu não quero problemas pra você. Eu já me inscreví numa classe perto da minha casa. Começo no mês que vem. / No, I wouldn’t want to trouble you. I’ve already signed up for a class near my house. It starts next month.
96 - Your English is so good.
Sara: Thomas o teu inglês é tão bom. Como você aprendeu? / Thomas your English is so good. How did you learn it?
Thomas: Bem, no meu país todo mundo tem inglês desde a primeira série. Eu tenho tido cursos de inglês por 12 anos agora. / Well, in my country everyone has to take English starting in the first grade. I’ve been taking English courses for 12 years now.
Sara: Uau, que interessante. Eu me lembro quando fizemos aquela viagem no ano passado e visitamos tua família. Parecia que não tinha muita gente que podia falar inglês comigo. / Wow, that’s interesting. I remember when we took that trip last year and visited your family. It seemed like there weren’t many people that could speak with me in English.
Thomas: Isso é porque eles não fala muito inglês. / Oh, that’s because they don’t speak English that much.
Sara: Mas eles falam inglês na escola, não é? Talvez eles não gostaram de mim então eles não queriam falar comigo. / But they speak it in school, right? Maybe they just didn’t like me so they didn’t want to talk to me.
Thomas: Não, na verdade eles gostaram muito de você. Eles me disseram que eles acharam você muito legal. Eles são apenas tímidos. Eles não estão acostumados a conversar com estrangeiros. Eu me lembro a primeira vez que vim aos Estados Unidos. Eu ficava nervoso para falar com as pessoas. / No, actually they liked you a lot. They told me they thought you were very nice. They are just shy. They’re not use to talking with foreigners. I remember when I first came to the U.S. I was really nervous about speaking with people.
Sara: Sei. Eu achei que tinham muitos americanos ensinando inglês no teu país. / I see. I thought there were lots of Americans teaching English in your country.
Thomas: Sim, é verdade. Deve ter provavelmente o dobro agora do que há cinco anos atrás, mas eles estão na maioria nas cidades e minha família vive no campo. / Yes, that’s true. There are probably twice as many now as there were five years ago, but they are mostly in the cities. My family lives in the country.
Sara: Eu fico pensando por que. Pessoalmente eu prefiro o campo à cidade. É tão quieto e tranquilo. Se eu fosse ensinar, eu preferiria ensinar no campo. / I wonder why. Personally I prefer the country to the city. It’s so quiet and peaceful. If I were to teach, I would want to teach in the country.
Thomas: Você acha que você vai querer ensinar algum dia? Eu sei que as escolas em volta da minha cidade estão procurando professores, então se você quiser eu posso ligar pra eles e obter mais informações. / Do you think you would want to teach someday? I know the schools around my town are looking for teachers, so if you want I can call them and get more information.
Sara: Não eu acho que não. Eu precisaria ficar lá por um ano e eu não acho que eu possa ter tanto tempo fora do trabalho. / No, I don’t think so. I would need to stay there for a year, and I don’t think I can take that much time off work.
Thomas: Bem, se você mudar de idéia me diga. Eu acho que você seria realmente um ótimo professor. / Well, if you change your mind, let me know. I think you would be a really great teacher.
97 - Gifts.
Jonathan: Dorothy, quais são os teus planos para o Natal? / Dorothy what are your plans for Christmas?
Dorothy: Nossa, é quase Natal não é. Eu ainda não estou certa do que vou fazer. / Oh yes, it’s almost Christmas, isn’t it. I’m not sure what I’ll be doing then.
Jonathan: Bem, se você não tiver nenhum plano, você e sua família poderiam jantar na minha casa. / Well, if you don’t have any plans, you family could have dinner at my house.
Dorothy: Muito gentil da sua parte. Você já terminou suas compras? / That’s very nice of you, thanks. Have you finished your shopping yet?
Jonathan: Não, eu ainda tenho que fazer isso. Eu vou ao shopping neste final de semana. / No, I still have to do that. I think I’ll go to the mall this weekend.
Dorothy: O shopping vai estar bem cheio. Você deveria comprar pela Internet. / It’s going to be really crowded at the mall. You should shop online.
Jonathan: Você tem razão. Minha família adora ler então eu poderia comprar todos os presentes na Amazon.com / You’re right. My family loves to read, so I can probably get them all presents from Amazon.com.
Dorothy: O que você acho que vai dar para a tua esposa? / What do you think you’ll get for your wife?
Jonathan: Provavelmente uma novela romântica. Parece que ela está sempre lendo uma daquelas. / Probably a romance novel. It seems like she’s always reading one of those.
Dorothy: Você não acha que deveria comprar-lhe algo um pouco mais caro, assim como uma jóia ou talvez um computador novo? / Don’t you think you should get her something a little more expensive, like jewelry or maybe a new computer?
Jonathan: Talvez você estaja certo. É difícil comprar presentes. Eu acho que minha esposa tem tudo o que quer. Talvez eu devesse perguntar pra ela? / Maybe you’re right. It’s hard buying gifts. I think my wife has everything she wants. Maybe I should just ask her.
98 - Election time.
Karen: Martin, em quem você vai votar? / Martin, who are you going to vote for?
Martin: Você diz pra presidente? / You mean for president?
Karen: Sim. / Yes.
Martin: Eu ainda não tenho certeza. / I’m not sure yet.
Karen: Você deveria decidir logo. A eleição é no mês que vem. / You should make up your mind soon. The election is next month.
Martin: Sim, eu sei. Eu ouço sobre isso todos os dias nos noticiários. / Yes, I know. I hear about it every day on the news.
Karen: Eu vou votar no Obama. / I’m going to vote for Obama.
Martin: Eu cha que ele é uma boa escolha, mas eu também acho que o McCain seria um bom presidente. / I think he is a good choice, but I think McCain would make a good president also.
Karen: Eu sei. Ambos são bons. É duro decidir. O McCain é mais velho mas tem mais experiência. O Obama parece ter muitas boas idéas mas as pessoas dizem que ele quer aumentar os impostos. / I know. They’re both good. It’s hard to decide. McCain is older but he has more experience. Obama seems to have a lot of good ideas, but some people say he wants to raise taxes.
Martin: Eu ouví que ele quer baixar os impostos. É duro saber qual é a verdade. Essa é a razão pela qual eu não presto atenção nos políticos. / I heard he wants to lower taxes. It’s hard to know what the truth is. That’s the reason I really don’t pay attention to politics.
Karen: Sim, pode ser frustrante, mas é importante e interessante acompanhar. / Yes, it can be frustrating, but it’s important and it’s interesting to watch.
99 - The book club.
Sharon: Ei, John, posso falar contigo um minuto? / Hey John, can I talk to you for a minute?
John: Claro, o que se passa? / Sure, what’s up?
Sharon: Eu gostaria que você soubesse sobre um Clube do Livro ao qual eu me associei alguns meses atras. Eu sei que você lê bastante então eu pensei que você gostaria de vir comigo no mês que vem. / I wanted to let you know about a book club I joined a couple months ago. I know you do a lot of reading so I thought you might want to come with me next month.
John: Nossa, isso parece divertido. Quando o grupo se reune? / Oh, that sounds like fun. When does the group meet?
Sharon: Geralmente no último Sábado do mês às 9h30 da noite. É muito tarde pra você? / Usually the last Saturday of the month at 9:30 in the evening. Is that too late for you?
John: Não eu acho que está OK. Sobre o que vocês conversam no grupo? / No, I think that’s ok. What do you talk about in the group?
Sharon: Bem, todo mês nós escolhemos um novo livro e então duranto o próximo encontro a gente o discute. / Well, every month we choose a new book and then during the next meeting we discuss it.
John: Qual livro você está lendo agora? / What book are you reading now?
Sharon: O caçador de pipas. / The Kite Runner.
John: Eu ouví dizer que é um bom livro. Sobre o que é? / I’ve heard that’s a good book. What’s it about?
Sharon: É um bom livro, eu estou quase terminando. O livro é sobre um garoto que cresce no Afeganistão durante os anos 80. Se chama O caçador de pipas porque o personágem principal participa de uma competição de empinar pipas. / It is a good book. I’m almost finished. The book is about a boy who grows up in Afghanistan during the 1980s. It’s called the Kite Runner because the main character takes part in a kite flying competition.
John: Parece realmente interessante. Eu adoraria ir. / That sounds really interesting. I’d love to come.
Sharon: OK, ótimo. O próximo encontro é numas duas semanas, você ainda tem tempo para ler o livro. / Ok, great. The next meeting isn’t for another two weeks, so you still have time to read the book.
100 - I'll take you to work.
Angela: Alô? / Hello?
James: Oi Sarah é o James. / Hi Sarah, it’s James.
Angela: Ei James. Eu não posso falar contigo agora. Posso te ligar mais tarde? / Hey James, I can’t talk now. Can I call you back later?
James: Claro. Tem algum problema? / Sure. Is there a problem?
Angela: Eu estou atrasada para o trabalho e o meu carro não está funcionando, entao eu preciso encontrar alguém pra me levar ao trabalho. / I’m late for work and my car isn’t working, so I need to find someone to take me to work.
James: Eu posso te levar. / I can take you.
Angela: Mesmo? Obrigada. Isso me ajudaria muito. / Oh, really? Thank you. That would help a lot.
James: Você precisa que eu te pegue depois do trabalho também? / Do you need me to pick you up after work also?
Angela: Sim, se não for muito trabalho. / Yes, if it’s not too much trouble.
James: Não tem problema. Eu estou saindo de casa agora. Já estarei aí. / It’s no problem. I’m leaving my house now. I’ll be right there.
Angela: OK. Eu espero por você na frente do meu prédio. / OK. I’ll wait for you in front of my apartment building.
James: Você sabe o que há de errado com o teu carro? / Do you know what’s wrong with your car?
Angela: Eu não tenho certeza. Eu acho que há um problema com o motor. / I’m not exactly sure. I think there’s a problem with the engine.
James: OK, eu dou uma olhada quando chegar aí. Eu sei bastante sobre carros. Quando eu era mais jovem meu pai e eu costumavamos consertar carros antigos. / OK, I’ll have a look when I get there. I know a lot about cars. When I was younger my father and I use to fix old cars.
